Notion Customer Review
Overall Rating
I don't think I can possibly rave more about Notion -- I love this startup!
It's super easy to use, easy to share, easy to customize, format, and create the necessary templates that you're looking for across roles and professions for the team.
Notion makes the perfect space for onboarding a new team member and catch them up to speed on projects and the business as a whole.
There's a level of accountability that Notion adds to work flow, knowing that documents are shared with co-workers and easily accessible to the rest of the team. Between that and the organization of the app, it really helps you put your best foot forward when sharing information across your team.
I can't think of a reason for a company, small or large, not to utilize Notion.
Notion
While I absolutely love the templates by Notion, they're super easy to find, use, and customize, the one area that Notion is lacking is in graphs. Notion has fantastic charting capabilities for a document collaboration tool, everything from kanban boards to calendars and product timelines. They really do a fantastic job at proving use cases and templates for all professions.
Even though my analytical mind loves a good graph or two, I couldn't bring myself to dock Notion a star for a lack of graphing functionality is because it's a document collaboration tool. If I'm really looking to analyze some data, I'm going to use Excel or another tool to showcase that information.
Additionally, you can choose to edit or export text in Notion in an HTML format.
Notion Organization Features
Notion makes it extremely easy to search, filter, and ultimately find what you're looking for within the app. Using the "Quick Find" feature in the top left hand corner of the app, you can search generically for the document that you're looking for. Without even typing in something to search for, the Quick Find feature populates your recently viewed documents as well.
You can filter the search by who created the document, roughly when it was last edited, or ultimately search within the page that you're already on. Only complaint is that it does seem like a bit much to go through that functionality if what you're looking for is already on the page that you're looking at, but that's what the "Command + F" functionality on computers is for.
To find previous comments or files that you were shared on, you can view "All Updates" right above the "Quick Find" feature. This will show you all recent notifications for yourself. It shows you the edits make to those pages that you're "following," essentially those pages that you have edited or created. You can also view those notifications that are previously archived or old.
Notion
I find Notion's security measures to be comparable and competitive with the landscape of the industry that they're a part of. As of July of 2019, the following security measurements and actions have been recorded by Notion:
- SSL everywhere, within the data center and out.
- Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- 100% on the cloud using AWS within a virtual private network that cannot be accessed via the public internet
- Amazon CloudTrail turned on at all times.
- Independent security audits using established security firms.
- Notify you within 72 hours of learning about a data breach.
- All employees receive regular security training.
- In the process of obtaining SOC2 certificate.
Notion
I think Notion has great customer service, in regard to getting technical issues answered and resolved. Notion also has almost anything and everything in regard to how to utilize the app documented in little training guides. Their website looks, navigates, and has the same user interface as the app so if you can utilize the website, you'll be just find using the app.
Notion
Notion has excellent sharing and collaboration features for the documents housed within the app. It allows for real-time editing and collaboration -- making it visible where a user is editing by the circular profile image or initial.
You have various ways to share or not share certain documents. You always have your own private folder, documents that others aren't even able to find within your workspace. You can share a document with only a couple people, which will appear in your "Shared" folder. Those with the link or that are invited to collaborate on that document will also have access to it. If you created the document, you can always remove this access if you decide you want it to be private later on.
It's beyond simple to recover a lost document or previous version of a document in Notion. It's as simple as viewing the details of the document (or checking the trash bin) and choosing to recover that file totally or reactivate that version of the document. You can also view a previous version without actually having to fully recover that version history.
You can also assign specific tasks, comments, etc. to certain users. This has made things like voting on your favorite tagline or logo for our website extremely easy. You can populate everyone's name in a column on the chart with all the options, and have them simply select their name from a drop down for their vote.
